Sandspit and Kawau Bay
The entry to Kawau Island and the Hauraki Gulf.
Sandspit is a small seaside settlement, situated along an estuary (fed by the Matakana River), large numbers of sea birds congregate here and is also the entry into Kawau Bay and to the Hauraki Gulf.
As you enter into Sandspit you will drive past the Sandspit Holiday Park, which offers everything from camping, motorhome parking and waterfront cabins and then continue along to the Sandspit Wharf. Here you can park your car and join your cruises or water taxi's out to Kawau Island (Bookings are advisable) or enjoy a coffee at the cafe situated on the wharf.
Sandspit has a great boating community dating back to the 1840s and has recently had a 131 berth Marina built right beside the Sandspit Yatch Club.For further information:
